Jill Wilkinson

My art is a visual diary of an ordinary life. I like to work alone exploring the unknown by reacting to the things around me, listening to fragments of conversations, music, repeating that sharp angle that I glimpse out of the corner of my eye.  I explore different ways to compose visual ‘shorthand’ of all that I see and feel. 

I am attracted to nature - its textures, lines and shapes - the simple and the complex.  My visual language initially originates from a spontaneous physical involvement with the medium and surface combined with symbols, memories and learned behaviours.  The marks I make mimic aspects of a quiet rural existence pitched against the backdrop of a fast modern techno-crazy society that impact on our everyday lives.  Each work is a pocket-history of a moment in time, my thoughts, actions and re-actions to sound and vision.
